Cronos: The New Dawn: Save Station Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Save Stations are the manual checkpoint devices inside every Traveler's Outpost in Cronos: The New Dawn — glowing terminals spread across all 24 hand-drawn areas that let the Traveler write progress to a save slot at any time while in a safe zone.

With a save system modelled closely on Dead Space — autosaves exist but are sparse, manual saves at designated stations form the real checkpoint backbone — knowing where every Save Station sits is as practically important as knowing where the ammo is.

Every Save Station location is marked at exact coordinates on the Cronos: The New Dawn interactive maps — the only navigational resource for this game, hand-drawn from scratch by MapMaster's team.

How Saving Works in Cronos: The New Dawn

The game operates on two parallel save tracks:

  • Autosave — the game saves automatically at key story triggers and area transitions. Autosaves are not frequent enough to rely on during active exploration, particularly in combat-heavy or puzzle-dense sections. On Hard difficulty, autosave frequency is reduced further, making manual saves the primary safety net.

  • Manual save — available at any Save Station when no enemies are nearby. Interacting with the station writes the current state — inventory, position, collectibles found, Cores spent, and progress — to the save slot. The game does not pause on interaction.

Save before every boss fight. The Save Station in each area's Traveler's Outpost is always positioned before the boss arena. Boss deaths return to the most recent manual save — not the autosave — so the distance between the last Save Station and the fight is the distance of potential repeated progress loss.

Save Stations and Workstations Are Always Together

Every Save Station shares its Traveler's Outpost with a Workstation — the terminal used to spend Energy on weapon upgrades, apply Cores to the Temporal Shell, and fabricate consumables.

Finding a Save Station means a Workstation is immediately accessible in the same room. The two systems are intentionally co-located: the recommended flow at every Traveler's Outpost is save first, then spend resources, then return to the field.

Crate Contents and Reloading

One useful community-confirmed behaviour: destructible crate and box contents can randomize on reload.

Loading a manual save may yield different items from breakable containers than the previous attempt. This is relevant for players farming specific crafting materials in crate-dense areas — reloading a save before a crate cluster can produce a different combination of Chemicals and Metal Scraps.

This behaviour is not documented in the game itself.

The One Story-Gated Save Station

Every Save Station in the game is accessible as soon as its area is entered — except one. The Terminal's Save Station only becomes available after triggering the Ascendance Sequence during the story.

On a first visit to The Terminal before reaching that story trigger, the station cannot be used. Return after the cutscene plays to access it normally.

Save Stations Behind Locked Access

Three Save Stations are inside rooms that require Key Items to access:

  • The Underground Station — past the Locked Shop Door, on the left-hand side after going down the stairs
  • Block 34 Outpost — near the Sealed Door; the station is accessible once the door is opened
  • The Catacombs — past the Locked Door inside the safe hub
